Are you and your iPhone traveling to Mexico? There’s an app. for that.
In fact, there are a couple of iPhone apps that are solely devoted to Mexico. Several other travel related apps are useful when going just about anywhere.
Here are the iPhone apps I’m downloading before I head south of the border:
- Mexico Travel Guides: This offline travel guide has information on entertainment options, places to stay, and restaurants in several regions and cities in Mexico.
- Metro Mexico: Shows you the location of the Mexico City’s Metro stations, using the iphone’s GPS feature, off-line maps and a quick search feature. It also covers the subway systems in Monterrey and Guadalajara.
- Lonely Planet Spanish: Just in case, I forget some of the material covered on the Coffee Break Spanish Podcasts I’ve been listening to, I’ve downloaded Lonely Planet’s Spanish Mobile Phrasebook.
- Currency: Provides up-to-date exchange rate information for over 90 currencies, including Mexico’s Peso.
- Skype: Allows you to sign into your Skype account using Wi-Fi and call other Skype users for free.
- Barfly: Guides you to the perfect watering hole in almost every major city in the world.
- Sit or Squat: Directs you to the nearest bathrooms all over the world. The app. connects you to to a wiki with entries describing the locations of over 50,000 toilets.

Great suggestions! OpenTable.com also has lots of good restaurant listings in Mexico, especially Mexico City. They also have a good iPhone app.

EstoyEnElMapa is a great app that provides information and location for restaurants, museums, banks, drugstores and a lot of points of interest all around Mexico. It is the most downloaded app in Mexico.
