My favorite music genre is Alternative. For both English and Spanish. Below is a list of some Latin American bands that have released new music in 2010:
- Alex Cuba. The Cuban-Canadian folk-funk rocker released an album this year and in March won the Independent Music Award for Best World Music Artist. It’s no wonder he caught NPR’s attention last month. These are tracks from an earlier album: Tu Boca Lo Quita and Si Pero No
- Undersea Poem. Formerly the Mosquitos, this man/woman duo offer a smooth bossa nova beat with catchy lyrics. Their songs have a light, romantic feel. Their new single is Makes Me Happy.
- Carla Morrison. Mexican singer-song writer with a haunting, feminine voice. Here is more about her from Latina magazine. Her new album “Aprendiendo a aprender” includes the song Esta soledad.
- Jorge Drexler. An unplugged acoustic guitar player, Jorge Drexler clearly enunciates each word. I would enjoy listening to him even if his voice and music weren’t so fantastic. His latest album is Amar la Trama.
- The Pinker Tones. This alternative pop band from Barcelona has a funky electronica sound. Their album this year is Modular. One of their earlier releases was Sonido Total.
