So you are going on a vacation, your tickets are booked, you’ve told everyone at work and your friends have given you a list of thing to get for them.  But there are a few more things that need to be taken care of. These tasks are many a times overlooked and can become a vacation spoiler, so here’s a checklist to make things a little simpler for you:

  1. First of all, ensure that you have all your important documents with you. This includes your tickets, itinerary, etc as well as your identification- either your passport if you’re travelling internationally or your driver’s license otherwise. Next, you also have to carry some money with you- cash, travelers’ checks or credit cards. One of the easiest ways is to open current accounts which allow you to access your money for free 24 hours a day.
  2. The next thing to pack would be your clothes. To do this, first of all check the kind of weather you are going to be experiencing at your destination so that you can pack appropriately. Remember to pack everything you might need from your underwear and sleepwear to your casual and formal clothes to your footwear. Pack a jacket or a swimsuit, as you would require them on your trip. It’s always good to be prepared, so pack your essential toiletries as well, even though you may get them at the hotel, and it a must in any travel bag- insect repellent.
  3. Now, in case you are traveling outside your own country, you might have to get a medical checkup done and get your shots as needed. It is also wise to carry a few basic medical supplies and medicines that you may need on the trip. Do not forget the medicines you normally take- vitamins, for any conditions you might have, etc. Make a list of medications you need and list your emergency contacts too.
  4. A mobile phone is important when you are travelling but more often than not, forgetting the charger is what can spoil the fun. Similarly with your laptop. Remember to always check for your appliance chargers and plugs. It is also a good idea to take travel compatible electric plugs that can be used in other countries.
  5. Now that you’re all packed up, there is one final thing to do. Make sure your home is fine in your absence- take out the trash and empty the perishables from your refrigerator. If you’re leaving your car behind, park it in your driveway. Turn off the AC or heater in your home and unplug all your small appliances. Make arrangements to have your pet taken care of and your plants to be watered. Finally, before you leave, lock all your doors and windows.
